Our Academic Advising Mentors can help you choose classes, read your Audit, review and revise your graduation plan, and answer any other questions you may have. They have also been trained to help first years and sophomores with common questions such as planning schedules, summer school options, finding on-campus resources, course sequencing, and much more.  Their walk-in hours are listed below.

Angelo Aragon

Major: Biological Sciences with Human Biology Emphasis 
Year: Senior
Extra-curriculars: Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, Undergraduate Research with Dr. Beaudin, UC Merced Recreation & Athletics, Democrats at UC Merced, Young Artists Movement
Favorite Class: BIO 133 because I was able to learn about plant classification and plant diversity by exploring different areas in the Central Valley.  I enjoyed collecting plants in the field and pressing them to contribute to an herbarium.
Favorite thing about Merced: I like how close the campus community is.
Fun Fact: Painting is one of my favorite hobbies.


Lorena Moreno

Major: Biological Sciences with Molecular and Cell Emphasis
Year: Junior
Extra-curriculars: Scribe Merced, AMSA, Undergraduate Research, and Volunteering
Favorite Class: BIO 101 because all the chem and bio courses I had already taken come together in one class. 
Favorite thing about Merced: The many opportunities that are available to get real world experience in each field and in research so that students may grow and develope their skills.
Fun Fact: I'm from El Salvador.

Extra-curriculars: Executive Board Member - Phi Delta Epsilon; Executive Board Member - Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS); Undergraduate Researcher - Cleary Lab; Scribe Merced. 
Favorite Class: Bio 110! Loved the engaging structure of the class!
Favorite thing about Merced: The ability to make a huge impact on such a new campus!
Fun Fact: Love watching movies and TV shows! 


Akil Hamsath

Major: Chemistry with Biological Chemistry Emphasis
Year: Senior
Extra-curriculars: Organic chemistry research with Dr. Ryan Baxter
Favorite Class: Organic Chemistry I and II! I don't know why but I find it fun.
Favorite thing about Merced: The beautiful sunsets! Id love to paint it one day but I can never seem to find the perfect gradient between orange and blue. 
Fun Fact: I open my door to company with my chinchilla on my shoulder.


Angela Van

Extra-curriculars: Global Medical Training (GMT) Executive Board Member, Pre-Pharmacy Club Executive Board Member, Mercy Medical Center Pharmacy Volunteer, Phi Delta Epsilon Fraternity, and Vietnamese Student Association
Favorite Class: Chinese 1 & 2! I loved learning more about the Chinese culture and language. 
Favorite thing about Merced: The endless amount of opportunities the campus offers. 
Fun Fact: I've been on 3 medical abroad trips! I went to Vietnam summer 2015/2016 and Peru summer 2016. I got to work closely with physicians and pharmacists by setting up free clinics in rural villages for the locals who don't have access to healthcare. 


Jeremy Mak

Major: Biological Sciences with Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Emphasis
Year: Senior
Extra-curriculars: Alpha Phi Omega, Who We Play For, Undergraduate Research
Favorite Class: BIO 189 because it focuses on animal interactions and why animals do the things they do. I'm also able to observe topics from this course in the nature around me!
Favorite thing about Merced: The Vernal Pool Reserve is a diverse habitat unlike any other and it's right next to UC Merced!
Fun Fact: I've studied abroad at the University of Queensland in Australia!
